Product Description

Using cutting-edge LED chip-on-board (COB) technology, our 15-watt ‘dotless’ LED strips offer the smoothest linear lighting output you’ve ever seen. Unlike traditional surface-mounted diodes, COB LEDs can be mounted directly on the strip-light’s PCB substrate. In conjunction with our new silicone coating technique, this arrangement lets us pack the LEDs much closer together – significantly reducing gaps and unsightly ‘dotting’. Read more.

Features

  • High Quality COB (chip-on-board) LEDs
  • High grade, long lasting resistors to stop LED chip damage
  • Exceptionally smooth linear effect

This Dotless LED tape draws 15 watts/metre. With a 2oz PCB just 10mm wide, it runs at 24V and can output up to 1728 lumens p.m. (pure white 6000K option). As well as pure white, this LED tape is also available in warm white (3000K) and neutral white (4000K) shades, and a range of single-colour options (red, green, blue, amber & pink).

Like INSTYLE’s other branded LED pruducts, 15W ‘dotless’ LED strips offer a long life of 50,000 hours continuous use. Cut-points are spaced at 45mm intervals.

INSTYLE LED supplies commercial grade LED Tape using premium components, built to last and always with consistent colour batching. If you wish to dim your LED tape, INSTYLE can offer the accessories you need, including DMX controllers and receivers, Triac (mains) dimming, 0-10v dimmers, and more.

Which driver will I need?
35909::
To work out what transformer you require this is quite simple. You take the amount of LED tape you have in metres and x this by the wattage of the LED tape you have, again per metre. For example 7m of 4.8w LED tape: 7 x 4.8w = 33.6w Therefore you would require a 60w transformer. For more information, see our support page on LED power supplies and their output.
Will my project need any other accessories?
35914::
If you’ve ordered your LED tapes cut to custom lengths from us, with all the starter-leads and flexible leads for corners that your project requires, then you’ve most likely got everything you need already! But for some installations, the following accessories may prove useful:
Which wattage do I need?
35912::
Deciding on which wattage you require is all down to what kind of application you are fitting the LED tape in. The 5w and 10w is ideal to be used as feature lighting. Lighting to highlight areas, as a secondary lighting. Ideal for covings, drop down ceilings signage etc. to give a smooth halo effect. The 10w would be preferred to the 5w for these applications if there is a high amount of ambient lighting. The 12w and 20w is ideal to be used as general lighting or as feature lighting for areas larger than covings etc. For example washing down front bars / back bars / under kitchen cabinet lighting as ‘working light’. For more information, see our support page discussing how bright your LED tape needs to be.
When do I need to use the IP67 Heat-shrink?
35907::
IP67 Heat-shrink type is required in areas where you will need resistance to water. For example bathrooms, kitchens and exterior. The heatshrink version is waterproof but it cannot be submersed, for example in a pond. The IP67 Heat-shrink is a protective coating over the LED tape, this makes it easy to wipe to clean etc. For more information, see our support page describing the waterproof LED strip light options we offer.
What is the difference between the Warm White, Pure White and Cool White?
35903::
When looking to use white LED lighting you may think it would be a very simple choice to choose as there is only one option…white? Wrong; there are actually different various shades of white to choose from. The 3 main shade descriptions of whites are:
  • Warm White (also known as soft white) – being described as warm white does not mean that it is warm to touch, the warm is actually describing the shade of white the LED lights up. Warm white tends to be a slightly yellow/brown in colour just like your standard halogen light bulbs. Warm white tends to be used to give a warm, homely feel. The technical specification of warm white is anything from 2700k – 3200k (lower being warmer)
  • Pure White (also known as daylight white, commercial white, bright white) – this is the closest resemblance to daylight white, it tends not to have any yellow (warm) or blue (cool) tint to it. This is used in commercial applications and also to highlight areas; it is generally brighter than warm white. On the kelvin scale pure white would be anything from 4500k to 6000k (lower being warmer)
  • Cool White – this white is used the least out of the 3 as it is generally too ‘cool’ (blue tint) for commercial and general use. However it is the brightest white and can be used to highlight areas. It still looks very white and the blue tint is extremely faint. This is great to create a cool, crisp feel. On the kelvin scale this would be 6500k+
For more information, see our support page explaining all your white LED tape options.
What are ‘commercial grade’ LED strip lights?
35891::
InStyle LED manufacture and supply commercial-grade LED strip lights – which means our products are high quality and built to last, using only premium components and branded LEDs:
  • Brighter LEDs
  • Vibrant and consistent colours
  • Accurate life expectancy
  • Sturdy PCBs
  • Excellent resistor management
Find out more on our ‘commercial-grade LED’ support page.
How do I wire LED Tape?
35887::
For this type of LED tape you will require just a transformer to get this working. You connect the 2 core starter lead coming out of one end. This is then wired to the transformer, red wire goes to + and the black wire is wired to -. The 2 core cable can be extended as required for you to mount the transformer as far away as required. For more information, choose one of these links for support and advice on how to install either simple or larger LED tape projects.
How do I create custom lengths? Can I cut my LED strips?
35877::
All of our LED strips are cuttable. Each LED strip can be cut at various points, either 50mm, 100mm, 150mm or 200mm depending on which LED-strip product you have. We can either cut the lengths to your specific instructions, or you can do this yourself. Once the LED strips are cut, you will need to join them to a transformer or to another piece of LED strip. You can solder your tapes, or if you prefer we supply two types of easy-click connector clips instead. We have starter-lead clips, which clip to the end of your LED tape and provide a cable which you can connect to a transformer or dimmer. The second type of connector clip is a tape-to-tape clip, which can used used to easily join two LED strip lengths together.
How do I attach the LED Strip light to a surface?
35875::
You can simply counter sink screw straight into the extrusion or by using the supplied brackets.
Can I dim white / single-colour LED tape?
35865::
The LED tape can be dimmed in various ways. One option is with our dimmable transformers: these are available in 12v/24v and in 30w and 100w. These can then be dimmed off a standard Triac wall dimmer (standard in households). We also have Triac dimmable receivers; these go in-between the transformer and the LED strip. These work with both 12v and 24v version and are ideal for larger projects that use larger transformers such as the 320w. Another option is with our 0-10v receivers, these can be used for both the 12V and 24v version. They go in-between the transformer and the LED tape and can be linked to such systems as Lutron or HDL. We also have the option to dim via DMX. We have DMX receivers available to work with DMX desks and systems to allow you to fully dim as required. Again these go in-between the Transformers and LED tape and can be linked together to dim all the receivers at once. For more information, see our support page comparing options for LED dimming.
How flexible are LED strip lights?
35755::

LED tape is very flexible indeed. So it’s ideal for use in a wide variety of applications – including signage.

And the heatshrink used to seal and protect our waterproof LED tape is as flexible as InStyle’s standard strip lighting. Even with full heatshrink coating, you’ll be able to bend and twist your LED tapes to the shapes you need.

What is LED tape?
35703::

LED tape is a versatile light source that will let you create new worlds of lighting possibilities. Easy to install and connect, this kind of lighting can be fitted pretty much anywhere.

Each metre of LED tape has dozens of light-emitting diodes mounted serially (in a line) on a strong, flexible printed-circuit board (PCB). When illuminated, a well-designed LED installation gives any location or surface a smooth, gorgeous glow.

InStyle are a leading UK provider of LED supplies, so you can order your strip lights from us with confidence. Because we’re lighting specialists, we’ll deliver everything your LED project or installation needs. We supply drivers/transformers, dimmers & controllers, LED extrusions, and accessories – all manufactured to commercial-grade as standard!

Unlike many LED companies, we’ll deliver your LED strips pre-cut to length. We’ll solder flexible connectors, add extended starter-leads, and we’ll even waterproof your striplights if required. That sets us apart from non-specialist sellers of cheap throwaway LED strips (like eBay and Amazon).

Our LED supplies run at low wattage, with a lifespan of 10 years or even more. So you get economical running costs, with virtually no need for maintenance.

Even better, InStyle offers great technical support and installation tips for all your LED projects. Why not check out the how-to guides on our support page and our what-where pages (detailing specific LED projects/applications), or simply give us a call? You’ll get lots of useful advice and answers to your LED questions.
