Colour-mixing LEDs mounted inside a full-size Grand Piano created the centrepiece for Hurts’ headline tour of Europe and the UK.
Production manager for the Manchester synth-pop duo’s 2016 Surrender tour was Craig Sherwood, who had already worked with InStyle LED to build the backdrop for the previous year’s NERO shows. This time, his task was to construct an eye-catching keyboard for Adam Anderson to use on the tour.
The final design used InStyle’s bright 20-watt RGBW LED tape (15 metres in total), set in a sequence of tight parallel rows to shine upwards from within the piano’s body.
The LED strips were configured in three zones, each controlled independently by its own DMX decoder.
The entire rig was powered by just one compact 320W LED power supply (IP65 rated).
We’ve got some great pics from Craig, showing the construction of the piano and the brilliant end result on the tour.
