Accessories for LED Strip Lights
LED strip lights are a flexible light source that can be used almost anywhere. Each metre of LED tape has dozens of individual LEDs, giving any surface a smooth effect when illuminated.
Unlike many non-specialist sellers (like eBay and Amazon), all of InStyle’s LED strip lights and other products are commercial grade – with low wattage and low running costs, and a lifespan of 10 years or more. We are a leading UK supplier of LED products – you can order our strip lights by standard-length reels, or we’ll cut them to the exact lengths that you need. LED strips are very easy to install, with 3M self-adhesive under a protective backing – simply peel and stick!
A choice of brightness levels and the flexibility to fit any space make our strip lights perfect for signage, restaurants, hotels, bars, and both interior and exterior home lighting. We offer a wide choice of colours – from warm whites to pure whites, and red, green, amber or blue strip lights. Or choose our RGB or RGBW (colour changing) LED strips, which will let you mix any shade you want with a controller.

LED strip lights for any project
LED strips can be used almost anywhere, for a variety of applications from commercial projects to domestic refurbishment. They’re perfect for hotels, clubs, bars, restaurants, and kitchen / bathroom strip lights at home. Or you can fit them in covings, plinths, signage, under-cabinet lighting, ‘working light’ and more. We also supply outdoor LED strip lights.
How long are LED strips?
Our LED strip lights are manufactured in 5m reels as standard. Or you can order your strips pre-cut to whatever lengths you require. So for example if you only need a couple of metres, you can buy an LED strip of exactly that length. (Cut point spacings vary depending on the type of strip lights you’ve chosen, from 25mm / 50mm / 100mm / 166mm.)
Most of our LED strips cannot be supplied in lengths of more than 6.5m, as anything longer will suffer from voltage-drop towards the end. This is because the printed circuit board (PCB) on which the LEDs are mounted can’t maintain a constant current over that distance – which could make your strip lights less bright towards the end on lengths over 6.5m.
How big are the printed circuit boards of LED strip lights?
When it comes to LED strips, there’s a huge variety of different types and sizes of flexible PCBs (printed circuit boards). At InStyle, our narrowest strip lights are 8mm wide by 3mm in depth. Our biggest are 12mm wide and 3mm in depth.
Are LED strips easy to fit?
Yes, you’ll find that our flexible LED strips are extremely easy to install. At InStyle we offer a cutting and soldering service when you buy your strip lights, so we can supply the exact lengths you require. We’ll even solder in starter-leads for connection to your transformer, and link-cables to go round corners. Multiple LED strips can be wired back to a single transformer – it’s as simple as connecting 2 cables together by using a screw-in connector block, available from any electrical wholesaler.
How do I fix my LED strip lights in position?
You can quickly and easily fit your strip lights into place by using the 3M self-adhesive backing that you’ll find on all of InStyle’s LED tapes. Simply clean the surface and wipe it dry. Then peel off the adhesive’s protective covering and press your strip into place. (Avoid pushing on the resistors with your fingers.) Our waterproof LED strip lights (IP67-rated) have the same 3M self-adhesive backing – and we also offer fixing clips that can be screwed either side to hold any of our strip lights in place. Very useful when you’re installing LED strip lights outside!
For a more detailed guide please see here.
Are LED strip lights flexible?
Yes. Our LED strip lights are extremely flexible, so they’re perfect for use in all kinds of projects including signage. Even our waterproof LED strips are very flexible.
Can I cut LED strip lights myself?
You can easily cut your LED strips through the printed cut points with just a pair of scissors. (Make sure that the power is disconnected before you cut.) Strip light PCBs are designed so they will give you a complete electrical circuit as long as you cut at the marked cut-points – so there’s no need for you to do anything else, like soldering or terminating.
Cut points are spaced at either 25mm / 50mm / 100mm / 166mm intervals, depending on the type of LED strip lights you have. You can tell where your strip’s cut points are, as they’re marked with a line between the solder pads. (Single-colour LED strip lights have cut-points with 4 solder pads, RGB strips have 8, and RGBW strips have 10.)
N.B. If you have waterproof LED strips, cutting them will compromise their heatshrink seal. After cutting, you will need to reseal the cut end(s) with a glue-gun. Or why not ask us to cut your waterproof LED strips to the length you need when you order – and we’ll handle all the heatshrinking and glued ends for you!
Can I connect two LED strips together without soldering?
Yes you can. For our non-waterproof LED strip lights, we offer three types of easy-to-use snap-on connectors:
- Tape-to-tape connector – this connector joins two lengths of LED strip together, without the need for soldering.
- Tape-to-starter-lead connector – this connector slides over the end of a cut length of LED strip. Once the connector is fitted, it provides an easily extendable starter-lead cable that can connect to your transformer or controller.
- Flexible tape connector – this connector joins two LED strips together without the need for soldering, like the tape-to-tape connector. But it also has a short length of flexible cable between the two strips, to allow you to fit your LED strip lights around corners or other obstacles.
Note that snap-on connectors are not compatible with waterproof LED strip lights (splashproof IP65 or waterproof IP67 strips).
What colours can I choose for my LED strip lights?
We have a variety of LED colours in stock – including single-colour (red, green, blue, amber), warm white, pure white or RGB / RGBW colour-changing LED strips. Some colours are only available in certain wattages, please see the product menus at the top of this page for more details.
The shade or tone of ‘white’ light is measured using the Kelvin scale. Lower Kelvin ratings are a ‘warmer white’ light, and higher Kelvin ratings produce ‘cooler white’ light. InStyle carries a variety of white shades in stock, and if you need other specific colours then we can manufacture them for you.
Does ‘colour-changing’ mean the colours of my LED strips are always changing?
No it does not. Many people assume that colour-changing LED strip lights are lights that change colour constantly. This isn’t the case.
Every single LED on your colour-changing LED strip has three separate light-emitting chips – red, green and blue. By mixing those light colours, the strips can produce any shade you choose – controlled by a hand-held or wall-mounted controller, or even by a free app on your smartphone or tablet.
Options for controlling your LED strip lights will depend on which controller you have. However, all of InStyle’s controllers give you the option of easy colour mixing. And all of them let you select the option of static colours for your LEDs (set to one colour until you tell it otherwise).
Can flexible LED strip lights be dimmed?
Yes. There are several different methods that you can use to dim any of our LED strips.
A mains-dimmable transformer is a very simple option, enabling you to dim your lights using a standard household rotary dimmer switch (see the full range here). Or you can order from our selection of high-powered receivers, which include 0-10v, DMX, TRIAC phase-dimmers and DALI modules as well as simple wireless (radio frequency) receivers, when buying your LED lights.
All of our dimming products for InStyle LED strip lights are commercial grade, with 0-100% smooth dimming. They also work with leading-brand controllers.
How bright do my LED strip lights need to be?
LED strip lights are available in a range of wattages, each outputting a different light level. LED tape wattage is measured per metre – so when you’re choosing the brightness of your LED strips, remember to compare output by wattage per metre and lumen output, rather the number of LEDs per metre. InStyle offer six available wattages: 5w / 7.5w / 10w / 12w / 20w / 24w.
Our 5w LED strip lights are our best-selling product. They draw our lowest wattage, but that doesn’t mean they are not powerful – these strips are very bright compared to a lot of other LED lights on the market. 5w LED strips are perfect for feature highlights in areas like covings, back bars, kitchen LED lights, exterior LEDs etc.
Our 10w LED strips are very suitable for feature lighting in locations with bright ambient light (daylight). 10w LEDs are perfect for highlighting areas, halos, signage etc.
The 15w and 20w per metre strip lights are great as ‘working light’. They’re ideal in locations with a lot of ambient illumination (daylight). Our 15w and 20w LED strips are fantastic for lighting up areas such as front / back bars or front desks, and they provide practical working light under kitchen cabinets etc. We also offer an optic extrusion for your LED strips that will ‘throw’ the light further. Combined with our 15w or 20w LEDs, they make an ideal wall washer – perfect for outdoor installations.
What’s the difference between 3528 and 5050 LEDs?
You may have heard the terms 3528 and 5050 SMDs used when describing LED strip lights. That’s because they are the two main types of LED SMDs (surface mounted diodes) used in strip light manufacture.
One type of SMD is not better than the other; the choice depends on the project. LED strip lights designated ‘3528’ get their name because their SMDs are 3.5mm x 2.8mm. In the same way, 5050 SMDs are 5mm x 5mm in size.
5050 SMDs are approximately three times brighter and draw 3x more power than 3528 SMDs.
3528 LED strip lights are often used for feature lighting in covings or plinths (indoor and outdoor lighting), while LED strips using 5050 SMDs are typically installed in locations needing brighter light – such as kitchen LED strip lights under cabinets – or as ‘working light’. See our support page comparing the two SMDs here.
Do you supply a waterproof version of your flexible LED strip lights?
Yes we do. All of our LED strip lights are available in three different versions:
- Standard non-waterproof LED strip,
- IP65 LED strip (coated),
- and IP67 waterproof LED strip.
Our IP65 and IP67 LED strips use heatshrink coating. Heatshrink has may advantages over the resin that was used until a few years ago: it doesn’t discolour over time or go brittle in the cold, and it’s easy to cut and solder. For our IP67 version we not only heatshrink your strip lights – we also fully glue-seal the ends as well.
An IP67 rating means your LED strips are waterproof. They’re perfect for applications where water resistance is required – strip lights in the kitchen for example, or bathroom LED lighting. They can also be installed externally, making them ideal for signage. However, waterproof LED strips should not be fitted in locations where they will be permanently submerged (exterior LED lights in a pond, for example).
Do you supply extrusions (aka profiles) for your LED strips?
Yes we do. When you buy LED strips from InStyle, we also offer aluminium extrusions (LED profiles) that you can house your strip lights in. There’s a variety of different extrusions for LED strips, each of which can be used with any of our strip light products.
They range from corner extrusions, to frosted extrusions that will diffuse the light from your LED strip lights, to optic extrusions that throw the light further. They’re available in 1m and 2m lengths, and you can cut them to the exact length you need using a hacksaw. See our LED extrusion range here.
Are there different grades of LED strip lights?
Yes there are many different grades. Here at InStyle, we mainly supply commercial-grade LED strips – built to last, highly reliable, colour consistent and the brightest on the market.
You can also buy cheaper LED strip lights of a domestic grade from us. These are lower quality tapes, manufactured for use by the exhibition market (which often uses low-cost LED lights as a short term throwaway product).
Do you offer a warranty on your LED strip lights?
Yes we do. Our LED strips and all of our other products have a 2-year warranty. For details, see our warranty support page.
When my LED strip lights be delivered?
All of our LED products are in stock for next-day delivery. Delivery may take slightly longer, depending on the time that your order is placed and the amount of cutting / soldering your LED strip lights require. A delivery time can be given by one of our sales reps when you purchase LED strips or any other products. For more delivery information please see here.
Have reputable brands used your LED strips and other products?
Yes they have. We’ve been a UK manufacturer and supplier of LED strip lights and other products for over 10 years, and we have a reputation built on quality and reliability. That is why so many customers stick with us for all their LED projects – including big-name premium brands.
