Colour LED striplights (also called LED strips, LED tapes or LED rope lights) are a flexible light source that can be ordered on standard 5m reels, or at InStyle LED we can cut your order to the exact lengths you require. We stock standard 5-watt per metre LED strips – ideal for covings and feature lighting – and high-power 15-watt p.m. strips, great for areas with strong ambient lighting, and for colour-washing front bars, back bars etc.

InStyle’s colour LED strips have at least 60 LEDs in each metre, which will give surfaces a smooth and eye-catching effect when illuminated. All of our LED strip light products are commercial grade, using premium components and diodes – and if you’re working on a bathroom or an exterior project, we also offer waterproof (IP67 certified) versions of everything in our LED strip range.

Our amber, red, green and blue LED strips can be used almost anywhere. They’re perfect for domestic use, clubs, bars, restaurants, hotels, signage and many other applications.

What lengths do LED strips come in?

Red, green and blue LED strips are generally manufactured and supplied on standard 5m reels. At InStyle LED, we can pre-cut your LED strip lights to the specific lengths you require (to the nearest cut point). Colour LED strip cut points are every 50mm for the 5w p/m type and every 100mm for the 15w p/m type. If you required only 1.7m of LED strip, for example, InStyle can provide you with LED tape already cut to that exact length.

Do you supply waterproof LED strips?

Yes we do. All of our red, green and blue LED strips are available in either a standard (non waterproof) version, a IP65 (coated) version or an IP67 (waterproof) type.

Our IP65 strips use a heatshrink coating that has may advantages over traditional resin coatings. Most significantly, it does not discolour over time, it doesn’t go brittle in the cold, and it’s easy to cut and solder. Our IP67 LED strips use the same heatshrink coating, but we fully glue-seal the ends as well; an IP67 rating means your strip lights are waterproof (although they should not be installed in fully submerged locations, for example in a pond).

Our waterproof LED strips are intended for projects where resistance to water is required, such as kitchens, bathrooms etc. They can also be fitted externally, making them ideal for signage.

Are red, green and blue LED strips flexible?

Yes, all of our LED strips are extremely flexible – making them ideal for use in a wide variety of applications including signage. Even our waterproof red, green and blue LED strip lights can be bent very easily.

When will I receive my LED strips?

All of our red, green and blue LED strip tapes are in stock for next day delivery. Delivery may take slightly longer depending on the time of your order, or the amount of cutting and soldering required. Our sales reps will provide full delivery details when you place your order. For more delivery information please see here.

How do I mount my red, green or blue LED strips?

LED strip lights can be fitted into place easily and quickly, using the 3M self-adhesive backing tape that you’ll find on all LED strips supplied by InStyle. Simply clean the surface and wipe it dry. You should then peel off the 3M tape’s backing and press your LED strip firmly into position (try to avoid pushing on the resistors with your fingers). You will find that our IP-rated LED strips are supplied with the same 3M self-adhesive backing tape -but for stronger support we also offer fixing clips, that you can screw either side of your LED strip to hold it in place. For a more detailed guide please see here.

Do you offer LED strip extrusions?

Yes, InStyle can supply LED strip extrusions (LED profiles) in which your LED strips can be housed. We have a variety of LED extrusions in stock, designed to hold any of our red, amber, green or blue LED strips. They range from corner extrusions, to diffused extrusions that ‘smooth’ the LED strip’s light when in plain view, to optic extrusions that ‘throw’ the light further. You can order extrusions in 1m or 2m lengths, and simply cut them to the exact length you require with a hacksaw. To See our LED extrusion range see here.

Can I cut my LED strips myself?

Yes, you can very easily cut any of InStyle’s amber, green, red or blue LED strips with a pair of scissors through the marked cut points. Make sure that the power is disconnected before cutting! You don’t need to do anything else after cutting (no need to terminate the LED strip in any way). Cut points are found at either every 50mm on our 5W p/m LED strips, or at every 100mm for the 15W p/m strips.

Have reputable brands used your LED strips and other products?

Yes they have. With more than a decade of experience as a UK manufacturer and supplier of LED products, we’ve built a strong reputation for quality and reliability. That is why so many customers use us on a regular basis – including premium brands.

Do you have project photos that I can look at?

Yes we do! You can see some relevant project images by clicking on any of our LED strips or other products through the menu at the top of this page – you’ll find pics of feature lighting, ‘task’ lighting and many other applications. Alternatively, you can visit our gallery of case-studies here.

What brightness do I need?

We typically recommend our 5W per metre LED strips for projects such as covings, plinths, or to highlight areas as feature lighting.

We would recommend the 15W per metre strips for locations with strong ambient light, and in areas that require high-brightness feature lighting (such as colour-washing the front wall of bars, and similar projects). Because our tapes use branded Epistar LEDs, they are all very bright as standard.

What is the difference between 3528 LEDs and 5050 LEDs?

If you’ve been researching red, green and blue LED strips, then you may have heard the terms 3528 and 5050 SMDs (surface mounted diodes) quite a lot. These are the two main types of LED chips used in LED strip lights. One is not better than the other, the right LED for you depends on the application that you’re using them for.

3528 chips get their name because their dimension sare 3.5mm x 2.8mm, while we call 5050 LEDs that because they are 5mm x 5mm in size. 3528 SMDs are less bright and pull less power. A red LED strip light with 5050 SMDs will be approximately 3x brighter and will pull 3x more power than one with 3528 SMDs. We typically recommend 3528 LED chips for feature lighting in covings or plinths. We recommend 5050 SMDs for use in applications where more light is required (such as under-cabinet lighting or ‘working light’). See our more detailed blog on comparing the two types of SMD here

Please note there are many different suppliers of LED Tape, each selling different grades and quality.
InStyle LED Tape is designed for commercial use and is made using the highest quality components.

Please note that we offer LED light strips and LED drivers in either 12 volt or 24 volt LED lights. Wiring up an LED strip power supply with the wrong voltage will damage your LED tape. So please check that the voltage from your LED power supply is the same as your LED tape’s input voltage before you connect them up.

Please note that many of our LED strips and LED drivers come 12V or 24V versions. Wiring up the wrong voltage driver will damage your LED strips – so please check the driver outputs the same voltage as the input voltage required by your LED strips.
