Wiring advice to save money for RGB/RGBW
If you are looking to use RGB or RGBW strips, be aware that for RGB you’ll need 4-core cable and for RGBW you’ll need 5-core cable. Many times we have seen customers only provide for twin and earth (i.e., 3 core cable), which is not enough cables.
If you are looking to control multiple strips / areas together, then you’re best to wire all the areas back to a single power supply and receiver. This way, you are only paying for one supply and one receiver unit.
To do this, you will need to wire the 4- or 5-core cables back to one area.
If you do not do this and have (for example) 6 lighting areas/zones, but only have fitted mains-cable twin and earth to each area, then you’ll end up needing a separate power supply and receiver for each area / LED strip – which means 6 times as much control gear and a more expensive multizone controller to be able to manage and synchronise everything together!
Whereas, if for RGBW you had the 6 areas (for example) all with 5-core cable going back to one area with just one power supply, one receiver and one single-zone controller, then you can save a huge amount of money.
And both options are giving you exactly the same effect / control!
