Great thinkers through out the ages have looked at light as a source of inspiration, as the sunrises everyday to illuminate our paths and keep the darkness at bay, light has become a symbolic sign in the pursuit of knowledge and wisdom. This symbol of light is still used to this day with many of our greatest thinkers using light as a device in which we can better ourselves.
Here are a some quotes from these influential figures that have used light to get there point across, with some being serious and others not so serious.
William Butler Yeats –
“Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire”
Martin Luther King, Jr. –
“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”
Eleanor Roosevelt –
“It is better to light a candle than curse.”
Plato –
“We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; the real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light.”
Abraham Lincoln –
“I am not bound to win, but I am bound to be true. I am not bound to succeed, but I am bound to live by the light that I have. I must stand with anybody that stands right, and stand with him while he is right, and part with him when he goes wrong.”
Of course we can’t not have a quote from the man that created the way we use light within our homes today, the creator of the light bulb Thomas A. Edison.
Thomas A. Edison –
“Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.”
And one im sure will bring a smile to your face.
Anonymous –
“Light travels faster than sound. That’s why most people seem bright until you hear them speak”
