There are however many downfalls of using standard fluorescent and incandescent lighting in signage. Problems such as, the fluorescent tubes come in standard lengths and can not be bent around corners. They are non IP rated so the housing that includes the lighting needs to be fully waterproof. The main problem is maintenance. The fluorescent tubes need to be replaced every 2000 hours. For some company’s this can run up a very large maintenance cost if there signs are high up in the air and need scaffolding and a fully trained electrician to change them every time. And the list goes on..
….Well now it is 2013 and technology is advancing at a fast rate. In particular lighting, LED lighting. It is well publicised that LED lighting is the future of all lighting and will eventually replace all other forms of lighting due to its many benefits. LED itself has advanced very far over recent years and is now used in more and more products with better and cheaper LED’s. Here are the advantages of using the latest InStyle LED tape lighting in signs.
Long life
- The main advantage of the LED tape over fluorescent tubes and alternative lighting is the life of the LED tape. The LED tape will still work @ 70% after 70,000 hours continuous use. This can save hundreds if not thousands of pounds on maintenance costs (changing the fluorescent tubes every 2000 hours). The LED tape is essentially a fit and forget product maintenance free.
Efficiency
- The InStyle LED tape can use as little as 4.8w and still give an output of 360 lumen’s per metre. The initial cost of the LED tape may be higher than alternative lighting solutions but within a couple of years the LED tape would have paid for its self in savings.
Extremely Flexible
- LED tape is one of the most flexible if not the most flexible light source on the market. Long gone are the days of having fixed lengths and rigid florescent tubes and alternative lighting. With LED tape you can bend the LED tape, this makes it ideal for circular and curved signs. The LED tape may come in standard 5m lengths but it is actually cuttable to the nearest 50mm making it ideal to fit any project. The LED tape can also be simply soldered back together again for longer lengths or to have linking cable between lengths ideal for signage letters etc.
Heat output
Safe Voltage
The LED tape runs at a 12 or 24 voltage making it safe to use. Also the fact the LED tape has no glass or moving parts makes it incredibly safe for installation.
Colour range & Colour changing
Waterproof:
The LED tape is even available in a IP67 (waterproof ) version. This makes the LED tape ideal to be used outside. The LED tape can be fit exterior to the sign. Signs now do not have to be IP67 to waterproof the fluorescent tubes, as the product itself is waterproof allowing for more versatile signs and easier manufacturing.
