Water-Resistant LED Strips – what IP ratings can InStyle supply?
LED strip lights are available uncoated (non-waterproof), or with splash-proof or fully waterproof coatings. With this range of waterproof LED lights, you can install your tape strips almost anywhere – bathrooms and kitchens, externally, or any location where resistance to water is required.
You may even decide to choose our splash-proof option just for the extra peace of mind it offers – or for the ease of wiping dust from the coating of the waterproof LED lights when they are installed in places where people will come in contact with it.
Our splash-proof and waterproof LED strips are sealed within a very thin heatshrink coating, almost identical in size to uncoated strips. (Heatshrink coating is preferable to traditional resin or silicone LED strip coatings, as they tend to go brittle and discolour over time. This can significantly affect the output of your waterproof LED lights – that’s to say, their brightness – and life expectancy.)
Every item in Instyle’s LED tape range is available in all 3 types: uncoated (non-waterproof), splash-proof or as fully waterproof LED lights.
Understanding IP Ratings
Ingress Protection (IP) ratings indicate the protection that an electrical product (such as our waterproof LED lights) offers against dust and moisture. The higher the IP value, the better protection your waterproof LED strips offer.
IP 33:
At Instyle LED, this is our standard grade of LED strip light. With no guaranteed dust/water protection, it’s ideal for internal use only.
IP 65:
Our splash-proof LED strip lights are rated IP65, so they’re ideal for installation under kitchen cabinets and in bathrooms. Coated with our very thin heatshrink coating and with double heatshrink at each end of the tape, they offer general protection and are easy to wipe and clean.
IP 67:
These are our fully waterproof LED lights. IP67-rated LED strip lights can be installed externally and are protected against regular water contact. (Important – IP67 does not offer protection if installed in a permanently submerged location). IP67 waterproof LED lights use the same coating as the IP65 splash-proof range, but with an additional glue seal at each end.
IP67-rated waterproof LED strip lights are fully waterproof, so they can be used anywhere – even externally – as long as the location is not permanently submerged.
